Publication Layout & Promotional Materials

My publication layout and promotional materials reflect current professional projects and past educational experiences. I’ve had many rich, rewarding, and instructive opportunities in design and content creation. I’ve utilized Photoshop, InDesign, and Canva in my work.

In my freelance work, I’ve been responsible for large, long-term projects, from the interior design of a quarterly journal to the layout of a full-length biography.

As You Sow

As communications project coordinator, I designed some materials using Canva (first and foremost the staff business cards), but most of my design work was in collaboration and consultation with the organization’s contract designers.

The interior and exterior design of As You Sow’s reports was a complex and lengthy process as I worked with the vision of the report’s project manager and the creative expertise of the design consultant. I was responsible for the coordination of the interior and exterior designs of the following reports and newsletters:

Racial Justice Scorecard (2022-2024)

Workplace Equity Scorecard (2022-2024)

Shareholder Impact Review (2024)

2024 Plastic Promises Scorecard

Carbon Clean 200 2023/2024

Capturing the Diversity Benefit

Quarterly Newsletters (Winter 2022 through Summer 2024)

Department of Applied Linguistics, PSU

As administrative manager for the Department of Applied Linguistics at PSU, I created various communications and marketing materials for the department.

I utilized Canva templates, and also created original materials using InDesign. My work has included department information sheets, course promotion flyers, program brochures, event materials, and even a temporary tattoo! Peruse the linked gallery below to view a few examples of these materials.

I also designed and distributed the department’s quarterly newsletter using Emma through June of 2022. I’m versed in MailChimp and Constant Contact.

Please note that the front cover art itself (“The Coquette”) is the work of Anni Wilson.

Interior Design and Layout, From the Hip

From 2012 to 2016, I was the editor-in-chief of From the Hip, a quarterly dance journal with international circulation.

As editor, I planned the layout and designed of the interior of the journal. These 11x17 layouts were created without a template, utilizing InDesign. Each issue is between 26 and 36 pages in length. Please note that all covers were designed by Erika Ryn.
